In
July 2009, Wavex Technologies Pte Ltd. (a subsidiary
of HKC Group) has successfully built Singapore's
first RFID-Enabled Automotive solution for TC Nissan
Hub owned by Tan Chong International. This project
initiative was supported by the National RFID Centre
for pioneering the use of RFID technology in the
automotive industry. With this RFID solution, Tan
Chong would be able to enjoy better efficiency in
managing their inventory, pre-delivery installations
and delivery processes.
The project is implemented in a 400,000 sq. ft.
facility in Sixth Lok Yang Road that has a storage
capacity of about 900 cars. This hub houses the
storage of Nissan cars while providing pre-delivery
installations, and the new vehicle delivery within
the same building.
Wavex's solution comprises of the RFID-Enabled
Car Inventory Management system coupled with Process
Optimization features for efficient tracking and
management of new cars.
Every parking space and installation bay would
be tagged with a "lot tag" that would
be used to identify cars that are tagged with
a "car tag" whenever they are parked
within the assigned area. Information on the "car
tag" is associated with the car chassis number,
and would be traceable with an internal reference
number.
The system facilitates more efficient workflow
during the pre-delivery inspection process and
monitors the progress of installation works. With
new cars being delivered directly from the port
to the hub, and all key facilities available under
one roof; customers now receive their new cars
in almost ex-factory condition with mileage reduced
by almost 90%, as well as minimizing fuel wastage
and pollution.
This project is another milestone achieved by
our group in the development of RFID technology.
Being the first company to locally deploy an Active
RFID-Enabled Car Inventory Management System for
the automotive industry, this helps to achieve
traceability, visibility and improvement in its
operational efficiency. Our group believes that
our RFID system would help the automotive industry
in the region experience the benefits that RFID
brings to their organization.
System Features:
- Ability to locate a car on exact car lot
- Mobile device for tagging of cars
- Computerized car searching
- One-click reports and analysis
- Live delivery cars and owners display
- All staff would be trained to be more IT
savvy though the use of this system
